Lebbeus Hordern in 1914 inherited a huge fortune as heir to Anthony Horderns
huge department store. Instead of working iin the organisaton he devoted himself
to a wide range of other activities, among which was the purchase of the first,
seond, third, fourth and fifth seaplanes in Australia. He was a complex,
enigmatic person:some called him 'Australia's Gatsby'. His story is tragic, but
his contribution to aviation hisory is fascinating.
