The first aircraft to fly around Australia was a Fairey IIID seaplane of the RAAF, flown by Squadron Leader ‘Jimmy” Goble and Flight Lieutenant Ivor McIntyre of the RAAF.The basic story can be seen here.

My talk on the Goble flight is on youtube here - and includes a brief report on the 2024 tribute flights by Michael Smith and David Geers

The baisc source material was hard to find, and consistes of articles by Neville Parnell, AHSA journal, DEcember 1965, (Word file), and Keith Isaacs, Air Enthusiast, 1967 (.pdf)

A contemporary newsreel is here.

Downloads have been made avaiable in Publications: booklet or single pages.

Fairey III in RAAF Service.ppsx is a PowerPoint presentation about the Fairey seaplanes used by the RAAF.

The 100 years aniversary of the flight was marked by a tribute flight by adventurer Michael Smith (anticlockwise, following Goble's timetable as well as precticable) and another tribute flight (clockwise, leading relays of seaplanes, by David Geers, with passenger Cathy Babis from USA, flying a Searey seaplane).

David's story is brilliantly told on his website https://www.100asa.com.au/

Michael Smith's story of his  of the 2024 tribute flight is told at   http://southernsun.voyage/aroundoz100  and in a series of youtube episodes beginning at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY0HKdGosP8

The RAAF made a tribute flight in an EA-18 Growler, reported at https://aviationreportdownunder.wordpress.com/2024/04/19/around-australia-in-44-days/ .

Other material can be easily found with a google search, such as RAAF report on Smith flight
